Venetian glassmaking is a centuries-old tradition that has been passed down through the generations. The art of Venetian glassmaking was born on the island of Murano, located in the Venetian Lagoon. Today, there are still many artisans who live and work on Murano, and their craftsmanship is renowned the world over.
One of the most distinctive features of Venetian glassmaking is the use of color. In particular, artisans often use a technique called “striking” to create beautiful and unique patterns in their glassware. This involves layering different colors of glass on top of each other and then “striking” them with a metal rod to create swirls and patterns.
